Calibre is a national charity providing a free postal service of unabridged audio books for adults and children with sight problems, dyslexia or other disabilities, who cannot read print. Calibre can issue books on sticks which can be played on BTN's players
The Macular Society is the national charity for anyone affected by central vision loss. We have more than 15,000 members and, as the biggest patient group in the sight loss sector, we are the voice of people with macular conditions.
National Talking Newspapers and Magazines offer all the major daily and weekend papers. The full text is available electronically with selected highlights on CD. The best features and articles from top selling magazines including Readers Digest, Hello, Garden Answers, Which?, Private Eye, FHM, Yours, Cosmopolitan and BBC Music Magazine, specialist publications and Radio and TV listings. Talking News Federation is an umbrella organisation that represents the interests of local Talking Newspapers who provide a free service of audio recordings of local news. They can provide details of Talking Newspapers outwith our area. BTN is a member of TNF
British Wireless for the Blind Fund supplying radio and audio sets to all registered blind and partially sighted and access to many Talking Newspapers through internet radio
Infosound offering free services for those in the UK who live with sight loss, the charity Infosound produces a monthly 'Despatch' audio magazine compilation on CD, a weekly online 'Briefing' of news and information and a web-based 'Select' service of individual items of interest for blind and partially-sighted people, their families, friends and carers. Artlink works hard to increase opportunities for individuals who experience disadvantage or disability to take part in the arts in Edinburgh and the Lothian region. An invitation to take part has now been extended to the Borders.
