Local Services
Scottish Borders Council Low Vision Services consist of a development/social worker, a rehabilitation worker and a part-time administration assistant. The team is managed by a locality manager and is located within the Borders General Hospital in Melrose. They work closely with people who present with sight loss and their carers to undertake an assessment of their needs. They also offer information, advice and guidance on any problem relating to a visual loss.
RNIB Provides information and support to blind and partially sighted people within the region. It also provides a wide range of activities and services supported by volunteers, including befriending, which offers a supportive, reliable relationship to people who may otherwise be socially isolated. Also jointly runs the Borders Local Integrated Sensory Services (BLISS) with Action on Hearing Loss, a one stop shop in the Scottish Borders for people with hearing or sight loss. Services include a resource centre at the office, offering demonstrations on Mondays and Wednesday between 10.00am - 2.00pm.
