EDDLESTON CARPET BOWLING CLUB

The club is believed to have started up in the early 1900s in a building up the Mill Burn before moving into the village hall but we do not really know this for sure. If you have any information about the club please take the time to let us know.

Numbers have fluctuated over the years. From a peak of over 40 in 1970, there are currently 20 members - 6 from Eddleston 13 from Peebles area and 1 from Moorfoot with average attendance of around 17. The club is always on the lookout for new members, particularly from within the village so if you want to meet new friends, learn a new sport and while away the long winter evenings, contact the Secretary now.

Club nights are on a Thursday at 7:30pm in Eddleston Village Hall and run from the beginning of October until the end of March with other open and invitation competitions also being held on various dates throughout the season.  AGM and first session for 2010/11 is on Thursday 7th October.

Each year we support a local charity and last year raised £227 for Callum's Trust.

This year's charity the club is supporting  is Scottish Sports Aid. (Scottish Sports Aid is a charity which provides financial assistance in the form of grant awards to talented sporting youngsters in the 12 to 22 year age range, who are competing at national level in their age group, and have the potential to represent Scotland at senior level. The finance given is to help the athletes with their travel and training costs, and will hopefully assist them in becoming Scotland's future sporting stars.)

There are competitions for each half of the season with all members joining in. There is also a cup for the under 18s which we are delighted to see revived in recent years

We had an open pairs tournament on Saturday 19th Feb. This was won by Arthur and David Frame from the Fountainhall club who beat the Eddleston pair of David Tait and Dougie Noble in an extra end in the final. We attracted fourteen entries for this tournament.   It is interesting to note that Arthur and David are past members of our club and moved away some 8 years ago.

We are holding a Charity Open Pairs Tournament on Sunday 6th March which will be run on a round robin format. Entry names are required by 6pm on Wednesday 2nd March

Adult membership is only £8 for the whole season with around 25 sessions. Senior citizens pay £7 and under 18s £5. With no special sportswear or equipment required to take part, this is a very inexpensive sport in which to participate and we would very much like to encourage new members.

For more information, please contact chairman David Tait on 01721 730676 or club secretary Bill Nicholson, 16 Bellfield Road, Eddleston, Peebles. EH45 8QR. Phone 01721 730371 or by e-mail to [email protected]

2009/10

Eddleston Carpet Bowling Club wound up the season on Saturday 28th of March when we held a presentation evening in Eddleston Village Hall. This season was one of the most successful for attracting members but we could do with a few more from the Eddleston area.

During the season the members raised almost £200. for Callum's Trust. For further information about this charity please visit www.callumstrust.org

After a few games and an excellent Buffet,  prizes were presented by Wilma Nicholson
