The Village Hall was built in 1927 on a site gifted through the generosity of the late Lord Elibank. It has been a focal point for the Community in the decades since then and well-used for a wide variety of functions and activities.
There are presently 12 regular user groups. These include the village nursery and after school club, carpet bowlers, the Horticultural Society and the Scottish Woman’s Rural Institute. The Hall is also used for Aerobics classes, Bicycle race HQ, Parties and other functions
The village hall committee currently hold a number of annual events including the much loved duck race and the Christmas tree light switch on and fair.
You can keep up to date with happenings at the village hall through this page and you can also download financial statements and minutes below.
All enquiries regarding bookings and costs of hiring the Hall should be made to Margot Porter, 4 Burnside, Eddleston 01721 730216 or [email protected]. We would encourage you to book early to avoid disappointment.
Regular users, please make sure that we have a full reservations schedule including holidays and other planned absences.

At one time we thought about building a new hall and indeed this might have been easier! Upgrade work has included a new kitchen extension, rewiring, new heating system, new wooden floor, mains sewage connection and provision of proper toilet facilities. Painting and decorating of the hall (inside and out) are soon to be completed. We also have new tables and chairs, china and cutlery.
Also on the agenda is a garden and outside play area for the nursery. The car parking area is also under review and we hope to make improvements.
Modernisation has also extended to how we operate the hall and we now have charitable status, a modern Trusteeship and have managed to remove the ban on alcoholic drinks!
At an EGM in March 2011, Matt Morton was elected Chairman and Emma Billett Secretary. With thanks to Stuart Walker and Kevin Holmes who stepped down after several years’ service. Margot Porter continues as Treasurer and Booking Secretary. Vivienne Wilmut and James Taylor continue as Lay Trustees.

In order to promote its use by the Community, to whom it belongs, hire rates for local groups are modest, between £5 - 9 per session. Charges for commercial activities are not high at £10/hr or £15/session. Evening bookings cost £20 and a deposit may be required. These charges include use of the kitchen and are inclusive of heat and lighting costs.
Private parties range from £25 for young children (with £50 deposit) to £35 (with £100 deposit) for older children and adults.
FUNDRAISING
Fundraising is an on-going task. We are extremely grateful to everyone who has helped so far: from those who have donated money, to the committee for their time and efforts and to the Eddleston Community for taking part in our fundraising events over the years. We continue to think of new ways to support the village hall and wider community. All suggestions are welcome. Feel free to contact any of the committee members above.
If you would like to help us by making a personal donation, please email our Treasurer Margot Porter or give her a call on 01721 730216. This can be made even more effective if you Gift Aid your donation. .
