Eckford Village Hall has re-opened its doors for public hire following refurbishment including a unique environmentally friendly air to air heating system which is believed to be the first of its kind in a community hall in the Scottish Borders.
The hall was built, by the community, on land owned by the Duke of Buccleuch in 1930 with the express remit of providing educational, recreational and social events for the residents of the Parish of Eckford without distinction of sex, race, religious or political opinion. It has been in continuous operation ever since with various management committees, over the years, ensuring that residents can socialise and participate in events of common interest within easy reach. Current activities include Sewing Club, WRI, Church, New Age Kurling , Theatre, Ceilids, Quiz Nights, Music Nights etc.
The Village Hall Committee and Community are grateful to funding support provided by The Robertson Trust, LEADER, Scottish Borders Council Community Grant Scheme and CARES which enabled the latest improvements to be carried out.
The hall has car parking facilities with dedicated space for disabled users.
The main hall has a seating capacity of 70 and is equipped with stage, sound system, hearing loop, projector and screen. Comfortable seating and varying sizes of tables are also available.
The recently modernised kitchen incorporates Oven, Microwave, Hob, Fridge, instant boiling water for making individual cups of tea/coffee up to 100 per hour. Additional instant boiling water with a greater capacity is available in the storeroom adjacent to the main hall.
The meeting room can accommodate up to 8 people and is located directly next to the kitchen with easy access to facilities.
