The following targets apply to the CVS network as a whole and cover the period from 1st April 2008 until 31st March 2011. The purpose of the targets is to highlight at national level the strategic activity of CVS and the difference they make to voluntary organisations and communities across Scotland. At a local level, the Bridge is working to these targets, but in response to local circumstances and demand. Network activity is collated and highlighted at national level.
Thrive: Direct capacity building support to community and voluntary organisationsIn supporting the local Sector, The Bridge facilitates the Thrive programme through the provision of start-up support, including advice on legal structures, governance and recruitment – as well as on securing much needed funding and on-going developmental support. The increased role of the Sector in delivering much-needed services locally brings with it additional support needs which are addressed through one-to-one advice and support, health-checks and training to build the capacity of organisations to deliver high quality services to communities across Roxburgh, Tweeddale and Central Borders through structures that are fit for purpose.
Connect: A catalyst for effective engagement between the community and voluntary sector and the local decision-making and planning structures.Under the Connect agenda, The Bridge currently represents the interests of community and voluntary organisations on a wide range of forums, including Community Planning Partnerships and Local Social Economy Partnerships. For this role The Bridge covers the whole of Scottish Borders and works closely with its sister CVS in Berwickshire.
Communication plays an integral role in supporting the work of The Bridge,. We use briefings, events, newsletters and this website to communicate with community and voluntary organisations across the Borders, keeping them up-to-date with new legislation and policy developments and offering opportunities for local groups to share best practice.
As a local CVS, The Bridge delivers a range of services to meet local need beyond the core work of Thrive and Connect including projects that tackle local transport inadequacies and reduce social isolation.
See 'Activities' pages of the site for further information.
The Bridge has been instrumental in the production of a Framework for the Third Sector in the Scottish Borders. This document was produced on behalf of the Voluntary Sector Liaison Group whose members have all contributed to it.
The Framework sits alongside a working document which maps the Contribution of the Third Sector to the Scottish Borders Single Outcome Agreement.
