At the recent AGM at Escape 5 new members joined the Management Committee to support the ongoing work of the project which is a welcome boost to the organisation. One of the members is a current member of the project and sits on the youth committee as well. Liam Tait, who has now turned 16, saw this as an opportunity to develop his skills further and now wishes to pursue a career in youth work. Chris Anderson, Alison Hill, Sharon Rees and Ron Smith also came forward to become trustees.
During the meeting the Chair reported on the positive work and projects that have gone on in the last year with thanks given to the staff team, many of which joined the project during this period. This included the implementation of the Streetwork programme and the addition of opening on a Friday evening. Thanks was also given to the work of the trustees over the year and that fundraising efforts have proved successful, an area which will continue to be developed over the coming months. Recognition was also given to the project receiving a further 3 years funding from Children In Need for the project managers post which should in turn help attract funding from other areas.
Three members of the youth committee were also present to explain the work they have carried out since the committee began which includes updating the bebo page and creating a facebook page, successfully applying for funding through Youth Chex and discussing ideas for activities in the summer holidays. Future plans include exploring fundraising and creating a questionnaire for members to complete to assist with developing ideas.
Although the committee has been strengthened we would encourage anybody else with an interest to get in touch. We would particularly like any parents to come forward as we feel this is an area currently not represented on the management committee. Please contact Sian, Project Manager, on 379693 or call into the cafe.
We are always looking for enthusiastic people to join out team of staff and volunteers.
If you have a few hours a week to spare and are interested in working with young people then get in touch! Ongoing training and support is offered and all volunteers are subject to an enhanced disclosure.
