Background
Our organisation was established in 2004 following a local Youth Summit the year before where youths identified the need for a drop-in project. Our service has since developed to deliver youth services to young people across the Teviot and Liddesdale area of the Scottish Borders.
Our vision is to enhance the lives of young people, building a positive future, by developing and sustaining a supportive service where young people can succeed and increasing the range, quantity and quality of youth-led provision.
Through our widened service (previously Hawick only) we aim to increase and develop youth work activity in the outlying villages where little or no provision currently exists.
We currently offer a drop-in facility for young people in the Hawick area, (Escape Youth Cafe), set up in direct response to local needs and are developing work in the surrounding villages so that we can increase the number of young people across the locality accessing provisions
Escape Youth Cafe has run successfully now for over 9 years where we have continued to expand the service to meet the needs of local young people.
We work closley in partnership with other providers/services and agencies in the area including schools, police, community learning and development, social work and health to ensure an integrated appraoch to working with and supporting young people in the community.
Our work involves one-to-one work, group work, youth work in schools, fundraising, youth achievement and volunteering, as well as a wide range of activity based opportunites for local youths to participate in including arts, sports, creative media and cooking.
Our activities are aimed at increasing young peoples' confidence and self esteem, and improving personal, social and life skills.
Open 5 evenings per week and 1 lunchtime with lots to offer.
