These Goosanders were photographed on the Cuddy.
They are members of the duck family but belong to the "sawbill" family because they have long narrow bills with "saw like" teeth which are good for gripping fish.
They are fresh water birds and feed on salmon and trout.. They live for about 7 years
The female is grey with a gingery brown head and white throat.
The male has a dark green head, black back and long red bill with a hook on the tip. It's sides are white and sometimes have a pink glow.
