Hound Trail Welfare

The trail hound trust has been re homing traill hounds for 8 years and during that time hundreds of trail hounds have been happily re- homed as pets all over the country. In 2005 we re-homed 71 Trail Hounds and 14 of these were from the Border region.

The hounds we have taken in for re-homing have been from a few months old up to retired hounds aged 9 and 10. There is no doubt that Trail Hounds make great pets and I receive many letters and pictures to support this. Both Peter and I would like to thank everyone in the Borders for their support and money raised towards the up keep of the Trial Hound Trust. We are very grateful for this support.

We make sure that anyone willing adopt a Trail Hound is thoroughly vetted and approved before they can re-home one, and each hound is sprayed, neutered and micro chipped before they go to their new home. Follow up checks are then done to make sure that the hound is well and happy.

We now have two Trail Hounds happily living in New Zealand and another in Spain. I am still in touch with owners who regularly send updates. I also visit Norfolk each year to attend a Hound Scent Day, this is where people who have re-homed a Trail Hound, are invited to a show where they are able to meet the owners and their Trails Hounds and we all have a lovely afternoon. I usually spend a few days visiting Trail Hounds in their homes which is very enjoyable. People who have re-homed a hound from us have often come back for another, and in some cases have had another two. This is brilliant for the hounds and many are living a rural areas with a couple of acres to run around in and yet live in the house with all the home comforts. I do know of two hounds who have their own bedroom and bed, recently we re-homed a Trail Hound to a Baroness!

If anyone wishes to re-home a Trail Hound into the trust please ring me, Eileen on 01995 643351. Please bear with us if we haven’t got an immediate spare kennel but I will be in touch and make sure that all the hounds get a loving home which they deserve.
