Going Daffy at Venlaw - 2011

Going Daffy at Venlaw!

Peebles Gutterbluids Society, have looked after the lower slope of Venlaw for many years, providing and maintaining benches, litter-picking, and providing a banking of Daffodils.  An early Society project each year is the scrub clearance and tidying up of the steep banking in advance of the Daffodil growing season.  The members had recognised that the main Daffodil display on the lower slope banking at Venlaw, highly visible from Edinburgh Road and March Street, - was beginning to show fewer Daffodils in recent years.  The original planting had taken place in the early 1970s.

In October 2011, supported by a CSV Action Earth grant, the Gutterbluids had a project, - ‘Going Daffy at Venlaw’, when they planted more Daffodil bulbs on the slope next to Venlaw High Road, to supplement the aged bulbs there.  The CSV grant provided funding up to £50, and the Gutterbluids Society gratefully acknowledges this support.
