Welcome

It is a pleasure to welcome you to the Galashiels Amateur Operatic Society website, which will provide information of our forthcoming production.

Since the Society was established in 1906 it has aimed to bring light-hearted entertainment to the community through a variety of musical productions. In the early years the Society relied on the music of Gilbert and Sullivan. As the influence of Hollywood crossed the Atlantic livelier productions were staged, continuing through to the modern shows of today.

As with most Societies we rely a great deal on the public for their support along with our many patrons and sponsors and hope this year will be no exception.
Of course, all shows take a great deal of planning and organisation and could not be achieved without the hard work and dedication, not only of those directly involved, but by the vast number of volunteers who continue to support the Society in a number of ways.

It is very challenging every year for the Society to try and bring something new and different to our audiences, but many shows we would like to stage are unavailable due to West End productions.

'Sunshine on Leith', our 2016 production, more than exceeded our expectations being a huge success for the Society, with an overwhelming demand for tickets resulting in an extra Sunday performance and we hope this year's show will prove just as popular.

Our 2017 Production 'Evita', set in Argentina in the late 1930's, is another successful musical by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber, which tells the story of a woman born into a poor rural family who rose to become one of the most powerful and iconic women in the 20th Century and is still revered to this day.  Many famous songs in the show include 'Oh what a circus' - 'Buenos Aires' - 'The Money Kept Rolling In' and of course the signature solo 'Don't Cry for me Argentina'.

The  Production team are looking forward to entertaining, you our audiences, with another successful Production.
