The Clef Club has met continuously since it was founded in 1926, and has currently about 35 Members from many parts of the Borders.
We hold eight monthly meetings each year in the Lucy Sanderson Hall in Tweed Terrace, Galashiels. The programmes comprise six or so items, presented by the Members for the Members. As everyone contributes to the programmes the audience is always sympathetic and supportive, because their turn comes later!
The range of music is wide, from 16th century to contemporary, and includes all styles of classical music, along with folksongs and songs from the shows, excursions into jazz, and members' own compositions. Items can be solo or in groups, as various combinations of voice and/or instruments are possible depending on the available talent. The present membership includes: Vocal - piano, harpsichord - violin, viola, cello, and guitar - recorders, flute. And of course we are very happy to welcome guest players to help us tackle items beyond our normal scope.
There is a special category of Associate Member for non-performing relatives of Members, and Members who have retired from active music-making. Guests of Members are also welcome at any Meeting, as are potential new members.
The Club is organised by a Committee of eight Members, including a Chairperson, Vice- chairperson, Secretary and Treasurer, as elected at the AGM. The annual subscription is £12 for Members, £6 for non-performing Associate Members, and a special rate of only £1 for Students.
The current Secretary is Heidi Goodship, who will be very pleased to answer questions from anyone interested in joining the Club, and will arrange for them to come along to the next meeting. Just give her a ring on 01896 759649 or 0778 037 8590; or email her at [email protected]
Haydn Flute Quartet in D, Op 5 no 5, played by Heidi Goodship, Ann Owen, Robert Fraser and Sally Caunt on 23 November 2013
The Clef Club is a friendly and informal society for music makers (vocal or instrumental), who wish to perform music of their own choice from time to time at monthly members' meetings, whether solo or in ensemble.
