Dunse History Society

Duns and its people have a long rich history. Dunse History Society was formed in 1993 to encourage people to take an interest in that history and to promote and preserve this for future generations.

Throughout the winter months the Society holds monthly meetings to which all those with an interest in local history are welcome. The format of the meeting can vary somewhat, but usually there is a guest speaker with a particular interest in some aspect or period of history. There is often also an opportunity for a question and answer session to discuss the topic of the evening. Thereafter, there is an opportunity to meet with the speaker and to socialise with other members over some light refreshments.

 Meetings are on the last Wednesday of every month from September to April (December excepted) beginning at 7.30 p.m. These are held in the Dunse Social Club, 41 Newton Street, Duns (a few doors along from the library and almost diagonally opposite the Jim Clark Rooms).

Also over the summer months there are outings to places of historic interest (almost invariably with an expert) and often to places or buildings which are not normally open to the public.

 The Society is run on a purely voluntary basis by hard working office bearers and committee members
