Gareth Hughes and Tim Chamberlain, with SBC Arts Development team, did 6 Big Draw events in October including one in Bowden village hall. The projects were selected for a Highly Commended Award in the annual Drawing Inspiration Awards run by the Campaign for Drawing! The events were funded by the Scottish Borders council Arts Development team  providing the t-shirt press, t-shirts and materials. The theme was plants and machines, and artists could have their drawing scanned and printed on to a t-shirt....in all we did just under1000.  The events were held in Duns, Bowden, Kelso, Galasheils, Peebles and Hawick.

October 2010 is Big Draw month in twenty countries and on five continents. Launched in 2000, this annual initiative has grown from 180 events in the UK to over 1500 worldwide. The Campaign aims to use drawing to connect visitors with museum and gallery collections, urban and rural spaces – and the wider community – in new and enjoyable ways.

Every Big Draw season offers unlimited scope for those who love to draw and those who think they can’t.

Why? Drawing helps us to think, invent and communicate – regardless of age and ability. The Campaign took its initial inspiration from the visionary Victorian artist and writer, John Ruskin.

The Big Draw takes place throughout October each year, offering drawing events for people of all ages and abilities.
