Berwickshire Art Society seeks to encourage and generally promote an interest in Art throughout the County. This it does in a number of ways;
First of all it holds an annual exhibition of the works of members (and others) usually held in Southfield Community Centre, Duns during Reiver's Week (normally the first week in July).
All members are able to submit work for exhibition (and sale) and year after year the high standard of the works submitted is commented upon.
The exhibition is normally opened by an artist of some renown and a prize known as "The Torness Cup"' is awarded for in his/her opinion the best painting on display. This year, 2015, the presntation was made by Mr. George Donald and the winner was George Donald for his work 'Cormorant'.
The prize for the best work by a member of the Society painting class, the Sandra Hollands Trophy was won by Mrs. Anne Poole for her work "Isle of Arran''.
The Roy Oliver trophy for the best painting by a primary school pupil was won by Ted Stewart, Primary 2.
For previous winners and photographs of previous exhibitions see accompanying pages.

Thoughout the winter months a group of members meets every Wednesday afternoon at 2.00 p.m. in Southfield Centre Duns. This is a "discovery session" group set up with the aim of all encouraging each in the development of artistic skills and techniques. There are both experienced artists as well as those perhaps deciding to take up painting for the first time since leaving school. Ability is not the slightest bar to participation.
For further information contact the Society Secretary, Mrs. Diane Janes - [email protected].
During the winter months members enjoy hearing talks or demonstrations by established artists; a chance to learn more about the history of art and the great masters or to improve tecnique.
Also throughout the year, but usually in the summer, there are outings to "venues of inspiration" either to paint or to visit exhibitions. In recent years these have including visits to Abbey St Bathans, The Hirsel, Coldstream, the picturesque fishing harbour at St. Abbs, the Kelvingrove Gallery and the Burrell Collection in Glasgow and the National Portrait Galler, the Museum of Modern Art and the Botanic Garden in Edinburgh.
Membership is £10 per year which allows members to exhibit up to four paintings in the Annual Exhibition
