We are a non-profit charitable fund aimed at supporting families in the scottish borders who have a child with cancer or life limiting illness.
We aim to raise funds which would provide;
Our charity was set up in memory of our son Anthony Mundell who passed away February 2009, after battling Renal Cell Carcinoma for 3 years. He was a bright, courageous 13 year old boy who lived life to the full. He loved to draw,read, listen to music, an avid Dr Who fan (David Tennant), painted war hammer and loved lions, tigers and chip and dale.
As a familiy we were able to have the opportunity to go on holiday , taking all of anthonys medication with us. We felt this was valuable time to spend togethor as a family, away from hospital routines,clinic visits,blood tests,mri scans and daily home life . It gave us lots of good times and plenty of memories. We want to provide this for as many families that we can. One of the ways we can achieve this is purchasing a caravan, not too far from the borders.
Our time with Anthony was increased with the aid of a medication which he was lucky to have funded by the scottish medicines consortium. His consultant appealed to the board on Anthonys behalf and it extended his life by 18 months. We too would like to provide this opportunity to other families who may have their appeal declined.
There are two support groups running at present with in the Macmillian Centre at the Border General Hospital. One group was set up by Roslyn Mundell (parent) and Kirsty Wallace (ciss manager) in 2008 for Parents of Children with Cancer and Leukemia. The other group was set upin October 2009 by Rachel House staff and the BGH Childrens Community Nurses for parents who are bereaved after the passing of their child. We as a fund would like to provide valuable support to the group by having family days/pampering sessions and/or buying supplies for the groups.
