Firstly the work was put out to tender.
Portakabins were kindly given and much work was done to make them ready for the builders to arrive so that they could have office, canteen etc.
James Swinton and Co Ltd, the appointed contractor arrived on site as promised on 2nd June 2008. Excavation work began.
Work continued steadily despite some inclement weather. the foundations were completed and the drainage underway.
Committee members, supported by our from architect Richard Amos Ltd and our Quantity Surveyor from Burchell's, met regularly with our builders.
Wednesday 30th July saw work begin on the steel superstructure and the shape of the building could be seen for the first time.
A volunteer built a hut to hold the electrical supply.
Blockwork walls took shape...
...and flooring poured.
Top quality insulation was used throughout.
Solar panels were put in place to provide hot water and boreholes drilled.
The boreholes above are for the ground source heat pump to run the underfloor heating.
Internal walls were erected and rooms took shape.
The first winter weather hit but inside things progressed.
The inside is finally complete and finer touches put to the outside.
A wall mosaic was created by the community as a welcome to people entering Whitsome Ark.
Only the landscaping left to do!!

Whitsome village has recently had a new wifi system installed so that we now have broadband speeds up to 6MB per second compared with the 0.5 MB per second previously available.
Thanks to the local residents who succeeded in attracting special LEADER funding to enable it to happen.
Whitsome Ark can now offer access to this Wifi to hall users which is an added attraction to an already attractive building.
