Janet Paisley led a fantastic writing workshop. We had to describe ourselves by doing the following exercise.

Your name

It means ... choose a quality you admire in someone else e.g. playful

It is... describe something that is your favourite colour e.g. bluebells

or... a thing you really like doing e.g. singing in the shower

It is the memory of...someone who's been important in your life e.g. my mum

who taught me... what did you learn from that person? e.g. patience

when...what is that person doing when you think about them e.g. singing while cooking

My name is ...

It means... how you would like to have lived your life e.g. happiness

Then we had to write about somewhere special to us by imagining the place with our eyes shut. We had to describe one thing we could see, one thing we could hear and one thing we could smell.

It means spark,

It is grass and leaves on trees

or laughing and singing.

It is the memory of Catherine my nana

who taught me happiness

and how to love,

when getting up in the morning

using the poker to her hair

and hair was all curly not straight.

It means just enjoy life to the full.
 

 

It means generous, big heart, flair

It is shining crocus petals

or singing my song

It is the memory of Pamela my mother

who taught me love

when listening

It means onwards and upwards.

 

ERIC

It means intelligence.

It is peeling an orange skin

or walking.

It is the memory of my Dad Stuart

who taught me to garden.

It means one day at a time.

The blue sea

Waves and seagulls

Seaweed.

ANDREW

It means mentor and teacher

It is sky at night, blood-red

or ferreting and fishing.

It is the memory of Garry my dead son

who taught me to laugh even when he was in pain.

It means take it as it comes.

A hill covered in grass and heather

Birds singing

Cut grass and hay.

It means my family.

It is colour red blue

or t.v.

It is the memory of Robert boyfriend

who taught me to be happy

when working at Somerfield, in Hawick.

The cottage, 

children on the step

hens fussing about,

smoke curling up gently into the evening sky.

Voices across the valley,

a cockcrow blazing,

sheep bleating to their young.

The sweet air of the hill,

grasses and wild thyme.

ANNE

It means courage, intelligence, patience.

It is a bird flying

or writing.

It is the memory of Shean my mother

who taught me how to look after myself 

when I was a child.

BEDROOM

A red jumper lying on the bed

Bird song from outside

Freshly caught fish from a boat.

ELEANOR

It means creative, peaceful, strong

It is the sea at sunset

or listening to music.

It is the memory of Michelle, my daughter

who taught me never to give up, persevere, things change

when walking along the road.

It means living with peace of mind, contentment.

Kinnaird Head

Big dark rocks, shingle, seagulls, big waves.

Roaring waves, rattling stones.

Fish, salty air.

It means - Helpfill happy and kind

It is - A silky summer top

or - Dancing and singing

It is the memory of - Martha my Mother

Who taught me - {She told me} to stand up for myself

When - She is relaxing with the family

it means - Working in the nursery with Hayley my sister.

It means clever, happy

It is couch red

or shopping.

It is the memory of my mother Freda 

who taught me cooking

when going shopping.

it means holiday with Chris my brother.
