The Borders Carers Centre provides independent help and support to unpaid carers of people with all types of illness and disability throughout The Scottish Borders. Carers have a LEGAL RIGHT to their OWN assessment (even if the person they care for does not want help themselves). The Borders Carers Centre will carry out this assessment. You do not have to be referred from Social Work. You can make a referral yourself. The Princess Royal Trust for Carers Borders Carers Centre’s services are free, independent and confidential.
Do I care?
If you provide assistance to a friend, family member, neighbour or relative who could not manage otherwise due to frailty, illness, disability or addiction, then YOU are a carer.
IMPORTANT update: The Government is making major changes to the welfare benefits system. These will affect all existing and potential working age benefit and tax credit claimants. Download more information below,
PROFESSIONALS CERTIFICATED TRAINING - check here for 2013 dates. Open to Health, Social Work and the Third Sector professionals.
Carers:
How can the Borders Carers Centre help me?
We believe that, by offering a wide range of support and assistance to the unpaid carers in the Borders, we can help them sustain their caring roles whilst remaining healthy and happy themselves.
As well as emotional support, we can help you access practical advice to ensure you are in receipt of all the benefits etc you are entitled to. We will carry out a Carers Assessment for you.
Our carer training programme for 2012 is now available here to download and book.
The Carers Centre work alongside other organisations, such as The Jobcentre, Social Work and other voluntary bodies, and will ensure that you are directed and fully supported should you need additional support. Our services are free and confidential.
At the Carers Centre, we aim to help avoid crisis situations. We know that the sooner carers are signposted to us, the sooner they can start to receive the emotional support and practical advice they need in order to start making sense of the new situation they find themselves in.
IF SOMEONE RELIES ON YOU, YOU CAN RELY ON US
If you are not based in the Borders, please find your local Princess Royal Trust Carers Centre here.
