Andy Haddon is Scottish Borders Council’s Carbon Reduction Officer for Communities and Schools.

Andy’s post is a two year post which is jointly funded by Scottish Borders Council, The Scottish Borders LEADER Programme and Marks & Spencer, to further the work carried out by previous Eco-Schools Officers.

The aim of the project is to help schools and communities cut down their carbon emissions. The plan is to link schools and communities together to develop a whole community response to climate change rather than isolated activities.

Andy is working with pupils and staff to assess the energy use within school buildings, and to reduce their energy consumption. He is encouraging interaction between school eco-committees, parent councils and community groups.

Andy is also keen to work with communities who are interested in running carbon reduction training courses or projects involving;

  • energy efficiency
  • greener transport initiatives
  • production or use of local food products
  • waste minimisation
  • renewable energy generation

He is keen to work with any interested group and support them as much as possible. Hopefully in the future we will all be able to reap the benefits of a low carbon region with lower fuel bills, prosperous and supported local businesses, a healthier environment to live in and greater community spirit.
