Coldstream Adult Learners

Dyslexia

Dyslexia is more common than you think.

One in ten people are said to be Dyslexic.

We have Dyslexics at our Second Chance Academy group that meet on Tuesdays in the Annexe between 12.45 and 2.45 every week in school term. Dyslexics are very welcome to come to our group.

Some Dyslexics find it very difficult with certain things, but with the right help and support they need  can do really well and achieve a lot.

On Tuesday 1st of November we had a Dyslexia Drop in as part of the Dyslexia Week. People came to see what information they could get. If you would like to read more about it see below.

Drop in Day about Dyslexia

At the Coldstream school annexe, we had a day about dyslexia.
Pupils from Primary 7 came over, about 5 at a time. They were really very good especially one young lad, he was taking notes, and said that he was doing a newsletter for the school.

Then the second group came and there was a lad who was dyslexic. We had a lap top set up with some print of how some writing would look to a person who had dyslexia; the other kids were asking him if that is what he saw. They asked him quite a few questions and seemed to learn a lot from him.

We had displays with photographs of some well known personalities such as Churchill, Cher, Walt Dysney, Jamie Oliver to name just a few. The people who came had to try and fit names to the faces and it was comical to see who the kids thought were who, but at least they all had a go.

A few of the parents came plus a couple of teachers also the new Chairperson for Dyslexia Scotland, Borders Branch.
